Just a preview...

of what is to be posted next on my blog.

The kids threw me a "SURPRISE" Birthday party. It was the best, most precious birthday party I have ever had! The kids even took pictures. When I actually have a moment to post about it I will.

(good grief...if I would have known how long it took to upload this video I could have blogged about the whole thing by now.)

Pumpkin Fun

So where did we go to lunch yesterday?

OK-better day today.

We are doing a mini unit study on Pumpkins. Today we carved a small pumpkin. I had the kids describe the outside of the pumpkin and then they had to guess how many seeds were inside. Then I had them describe the inside of the pumpkin.
Ashley: It's orange and has a brown stem
It feels cold and hard
It smells kind of spicy and dirty.
I think it has 1 seed in it.

Mason: It's orange and has a brown stem
It feels hard like a rock
It smells like pepper.
I think it has 100 seeds in it.
Aussie: It's orange
It feels hard like a rock
It smells like salt.
I think it has 200 seeds in it.

The boys went off to do their thing and Ashley helped carve the pumpkin and get all the yucky stuff out.
And then the cat had some fun:

I didn't get a good shot of her picking it up and throwing it, but at least this one shows the pumpkin in mid air.
***Oops I forgot to say that we counted 239 seeds. Thanks for reminding me Jennifer. And do you see that little tiny pumpkin? Take a guess how many were in that one....
Well I lost count but it was 50 something. I was quite surprised!******

This is a rant!

I am in a REALLY bad mood today!
Yesterday and today have just been horrible.
One little thing that I don't mind sharing:
Aussie out of the blue started getting on to me about how I always have to CONTROL everything for their birthday. I said, "like what?" and he said, "you didn't let us eat cake first or open presents first and we had to have a pirate party and we didn't ask for a pirate party!" I said, "Everyone LOVED that party". He said, "I know but you always have to have things your way."
Where did this come from?
If the phone hadn't of rung I think he would be sleeping on PLUTO tonight. The call buffered any punishment.
But the whole day has been filled with bad attitudes!
There are several things I'd like to say, but I know better.
I could probably use some prayers.
Thanks.
OH--- Aussie said he is going to plan my birthday party. He said the men are going to be pirates and the women are going to be princesses. I said, but you don't like pirates. He said, "Well that's what it is going to be." I said, "How about Knights?" and he said, "Oh I didn't know of that." Then I said, "What kind of plates are we going to have?" And he said, "glass plates." I said, "Where is it going to be?" And he said, "The White House (which is what we call our church annex)" And I said, "but you don't like the White House." And he said, "well you are a grown up so we will have it there." I said, "Do I get to pick out my own cake since I let you pick out yours?" He said, "Yes because it's your birthday." I said, "Who are you going to invite?" He said, "Your friends like Miss Dana and Miss...I don't know any of your other friends names, but we will eat cake first and then open presents. And then we will watch a long movie-Maybe Gideon- ummm no that's too scary. What kind of movies do you like?" I said, "something funny, maybe with Steve Martin in it."
My five year old son is VERY "Austin"tacious!

Pumpkin Farm Pictures

Too tired to write...so enjoy the pictures!

I LOVE this picture! Doesn't it look like he is praying?

Little Laplinks

A lapbook you ask?

A lapbook is kind of like a mini scrapbook. You use 2 file folders and put them together so that the opening is in the middle. Then you fill it with facts and games and such on the topic of your choice. At least that is my understanding of it. It is a whole lesson that you can unfold right in your lap.

By the way we had a fabulous day at the Pumpkin Farm today. I'll need to post the pictures tomorrow. I need to get up early. g'night.

Here are some of the links I found for the topic Pumpkins to share:

Adventures in Camping

To blog or go to bed?...That is the question. We have had such fun adventures, but I'm not sure I can stay up any later. It's 12:15...let's see what I can accomplish.

Yesterday, Greg and his parents set up a tent in our back yard. We had planned to go camping yesterday or today. And they set up the tent to see if we needed to do anything to it before we left. Well they decided that the weather was not going to be very good for camping. SO... we decided to stay in the tent and camp in our backyard. #1. It is a very good thing that we didn't just go up to Fall Creek Falls and set up the tent, because the tent fits 5, it would not have fit all 7 of us. That would have been a very squooshy situation!

So into the tent around 8:00 we go. The kids are SO excited! Greg reads them some stories and then reads them "the ghost story" of Samson in the Bible. The kids fall asleep rather quickly. I had had a long nap and just couldn't fall asleep at 8:30! Plus I hadn't gotten ready for bed, I didn't take my meds, I didn't brush my teeth, etc. So I layed there for a while trying to fall asleep with my back hurting, so when I had to pee, I decided I was going to go in and stay in. I came inside played around on the computer for a couple of hours and went to bed, hoping to have the whole bed to myself. So for about 2 hours I did and it was marvelous. (now if I had to pick between sleeping with my husband or in the bed by myself--I would pick my husband, but it's nice to have the whole bed every once in a while.) So about 2:00 AM Greg starts bringing the kids in one at a time. He said it had gotten too cold and he couldn't sleep and he was afraid that the kids would get sick. A few minutes after he layed down in bed, Ashley came in and her legs were hurting. So he got up with her. Poor Greg!!!! Anyway, we did let him sleep in this morning.

Then we decided to go to Fall Creek Falls, cookout, hike and then come home. I had never been there before and I was looking forward to it. Papa grilled the burgers and they were fabulous!!! YUM! Then we attempted to roast marshmallows but they never would get brown. The kids played on the playground and then we decided to hike to the Falls. We knew with the 3 kiddos that we needed to have a short hike. So we found a lookout and it was 1/2 mile down the path to the bottom. I was really shocked to see the falls. I said, "Is this it?" I guess since we have had such a drought here the falls was pitiful. Anyway, we decided to take the trail down to the bottom. IT WAS NOT EASY!!! Greg was afraid for "my" life and the kids. We got a little more than half way down and Greg walked ahead and saw that it got tougher. He was afraid that we would get stuck in the woods after dark, so he told us to turn around. I was the slowest! And I needed a lot of time to make it up the hill. Check out these rocks...like I said it was not an easy trail! Anyway, I still enjoyed it. And the trees and nature were so beautiful.

And here we are. We made it back to the car in one piece!

So there you have it-That was our adventure. Tomorrow should be a lot easier! I'm hoping to take them to the Pumpkin Farm.

Speaking of pumpkins...I have decided to join this group online that picks a monthly theme and we all share our links that we find on the subject and then we make lapbooks. I have not made a lapbook before, so I will post when we have it done. This month it is Pumpkins. I will share the posts I find tomorrow. Click on the picture or here if you would like to join in or check it out.

Catch ya later!
