Mother's Day

After church on Sunday we went to Logan's. Yummy Yummy Yummy! I got me a nice big fillet Mignon and it was cooked perfectly and had lots of yummy spices on it just how I like it! The kids each gave me a card.

I don't know what this says, and Aussie forgot what he wrote! Pretty impressive if he could read it!And they gave me some yummy cookies in which I gratefully shared with them.I have always loved this painting of Jesus! I don't know why I never thought to take a picture of my kids by it before. Aussie wanted me to make him a keaton mask. And this mask was actually on the internet. It had the pieces to cut out, but it didn't have any directions with it. Still he loves it! It is a mask from Zelda- one of his favorite games.

Tonight I made homemade wheat thin crackers. It was so easy!

Ingredients:

1 1/4 cups whole wheat flour

1 1/2 T honey

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp paprika

4 T butter

1/4 cup water

1/4 tsp vanilla

salt for topping

Mix all the ingredients together. Roll out thin on baking stone or use parchment paper on cookie sheet. Salt liberally. Cut into squares. Cook for 10 minutes at 400 degrees F.

Then I liked to top them with mild cheddar cheese. Yum!

Colonial Day living

I am very sleepy, but I need to be up at least another hour to finish making bread. A week and a half ago we went to Murfreesboro to where they were having a Colonial day set up. The kids got to make yankee dolls. Or atleast that is what Ashley called them. They are little rag dolls. And Ashley has been wanting to make several at home since doing this there.

We learned about the different flags. We also learned that being a yankee is a state of mind.

They worked together to saw a piece of firewood.And they got to write their name with a quill pen.They learned how to wash clothes the old fashioned way.And then they beat the rug to dry it.They learned how the soldier camped. Most of the time they didn't have a tent.

They even got to dress up in colonial day clothing.

This was absolutely the sweetest thing. When Kadence caught up with the group and Aussie saw her, he literally stopped in his tracks. Then he whispered to me, "She is SO Beautiful! I could look at her all day!"

Then they got to play some games.

And last but not least they got to see some animals. This was a tiny tiny baby pony with her tiny mother pony. I found out something very interesting that I really could have gone my whole life without knowing. So I'll tell you so you wish you never knew too. When the mother horse pooped, the baby would eat it. The poop would have the nutrients in it that the baby would need already mushed and digested, making it easier for the baby to digest it.

Mason and Aussie held some chicks. Ashley was afraid to.

Ashley is with the mother pony. It was a gorgeous day! Perfect weather to be outside!

Field Day

Last Thursday we had field day.

They started the day off with a mile run! Right off the bat, Aussie lost his shoe and Ashley fell and got a nasty scrape on her knee. Aussie stayed behind to help her. And Mason said he would run the race for her. And even though it was long and he was behind quite a bit, he finished the race. He got to get some lemonade and he gave it to Ashley. I am very proud of him!! Aussie was upset that he didn't get to race. He is SO competitive! They had quite a few races in which he did get to participate.

None of which my kids came close to winning. I am very thankful for Abby who still had Ashley as her partner even though she was wounded.

They had a few other contests too- Hula hooping, fisbee throwing and jump roping.And last they had a water ballon toss (not in Davidson county-so perfectly fine to use water).Aussie came home with 2 ribbons. He got 3rd place in jump roping (which not many people knew it was a contest). And he got 2nd place in the frisbee toss. I don't know which would have been worse, him not winning at all or coming home with those 2. He was so proud of himself and he would not shut up! He about drove me crazy. The other two tried so hard to not be jealous. They made it through the award ceremony and then for Ashley the tears came. I felt so bad for them. And Mason was just mad. I always hated these things in school and I hated to see my children go through that disappointment. I think they still had fun though.

As the day goes on it just gets worse and worse. The video I posted of yesterday is mild compared to what is happening today. In Bellevue there is water up to 49 feet!

Oh no- I just heard that there is more rain coming. For a 2 day period we have had 13.2 inches of rain.

Please pray for all of those trapped in their houses.

I have friends who have 4 young children who were being babysat by her sister yesterday and they can't get to them.

This is so sad!

The May Day 2010 Tennessee Floods - Portable Classroom Floats Down I-24 ...

If you haven't heard we are having some major flooding around here. We are so very lucky. Even though we do live in Antioch, our house has not been affected. We have so many friends whose houses and cars are submerged in water. Many are without electricity. It has been declared a state emergency. We were at this spot about 1:30, so this happened between then and 5:00 PM. It was hard to get home yesterday. We went through many huge puddles and luckily we got home. My engine must have been getting too wet, my battery light went on, but thankfully it did not die.

They have been reporting all day long to not leave your house unless you are in danger.

Vanderbilt Children's hospital is in trouble. They have flooding on their first floor. And they are having oxygen and electrical shortages. Vanderbilt hospital's ER is flooded.
