Learning about Bees

Today we went on a field trip to look at bees and see how they work.

I learned that the fuzzy bees are male and they don't have stingers. You can actually pick these up. (Not that I would but you could)

When a bee finds some good nectar she goes back to the hive and does a bee dance and points the way to go with her body for the others to find it.

The male bees are mainly there to eat and to mate and they die after they mate. When they have too much too eat the females kick them out of the hive and don't let them back in. And so eventually they will die without food.

When it is time for a new queen they feed one of the eggs with extra nutrients. When that queen hatches, if the queen that already exists is feeble it will be attacked by the new queen. If the old queen is a very productive queen then it lets off a scent that says anyone who wants to come with me come now. And it will leave with several following behind and set up camp somewhere else. The whole thing was very fascinating to me!

I loved the little bee suits they had for the kids to get a close look.

And we got to bring home some of the honey too. YUM!

Oh and here is a layout I did today:

Being helpful!

Well I'm "trying" to be helpful! I was just trying to show Dana's baby the way out. Come on sweet boy- it's time to come out and see Miss Chelle.
Dana got to come over for a couple of hours today and we got to scrapbook. I made this layout. I always struggle with titles- so Greg came up with this one.

Saturday cookout

Mason still has his tooth. It is so loose and yet it is really stuck in there. He is so proud though to be the first with a loose tooth. The other two are handling it really well. I'm sure they will get jealous when the tooth fairy comes though. So what is reasonable these days for the tooth fairy to leave?

Tonight we went to a cookout with some of Greg's workmates. The house we went to had a gorgeous back yard and it was landscaped beautifully. They had a little waterfall set up with a few fish in it. The kids got to feed the fish, which was a real treat for them. The owners pulled some toys out and the kids played with this gun playing "freeze" tag. It humored me because they would pretend to shoot and say I got you and that person wouldn't argue they would just freeze.
Oh and another big hit there was the foosball table.

My batteries bailed on me, so I didn't get many pictures there. I did get a few though.

Fun at the Y

Wow! These long days are starting to take a toll on me! Day 4 of VBS and I got 2 layouts done. Whoooopeeee! I had a LOT of fun making this one. It's so different from others that I make. I just enjoyed freely putting papers and flowers down just anywhere.
__________

Then off to the YMCA! What fun!! They love this froggy slide. Aussie likes to go down by himself. And Ashley and Mason like us to catch them.
____________

So we left at 8:30 this morning and didn't get home until 8:00 this evening. I'm ready for bed! Here are a few more pool pictures.

WE LOVE the YMCA!

I LOVE this picture!

Tomorrow won't be AS busy, but still another busy day!

Day 3 of VBS

...and another layout done. WoooHooo!

The kids are really enjoying VBS even though in the morning they say, "I don't wanna go." Today, Aussie admitted once we got there that they actually DO like VBS but they miss me.

They have these riding toys there to play on and the kids just love them. After VBS we played with Gabriel, Dalton and Braxton on the playground for a few minutes, since they are not in the same class and don't get to see each other. Oh by the way Renee- Yes, Page is in my kids class. Aussie talks about her everyday. I was going to get a picture of her when I went to pick them up today, but she was already going out the door when I got there.
After VBS, my kids went to Gabriel's house to play for a little bit. (which turned out to be maybe a little longer than Doris wanted---SORRY!) Anyway, the kids had so much fun! They ended up making a "Science" concoction which they called Dead Bug Soup. The giggling was so cute to hear! Doris scored some really cute pictures. I don't know if she will post them.
--------------------
And then we went to the Y for swim lessons. Tonight was much more organized than yesterday. Mason still refuses to put his face in the water.
----------------
Then we played in the pool after swim lessons till 7:00 and Aussie actually cried when we had to leave. That has been one area in the past that we have been lucky with. When we say we have to go and give them so many more minutes to play, they usually go pretty easily. So this was a bit of a surprise when he acted like that. I don't think he would have ever thought about dinner and would have played until they shut the pool down. He is a little water bug!
